4 Ways to Achieve Your Goals!

Do you want to achieve your goals? Are you tired of not getting anywhere? There are reasons why you may not be that successful. Let me list a few.

You cannot achieve your goals if you don't know what they are. Do you know what you really want? No, I don't mean stuff like, "I want a Ferrari," I mean what you really want out of life, or to accomplish. Now maybe you really do want a Ferrari, but most people really don't mean it when they say things like that. Sure they want the glamour and the prestige, but they really don't want the thing. What they might really want is a "nice car," or just a better car.

Maybe you said you wanted to be rich, but what does that mean? To some it sound like a million dollars at first, but then it settles down to being able to pay the bills and have a couple of hundred left over.

You have to spend time really evaluating what you really want before you know what it takes to go out and get it. Take some time with a pencil and paper and maybe a friend to help keep you on the right track. Write down everything that comes to mind and then start crossing things off the list or redefining what you really meant. Goals need to be specific!

Another reason you may not be able to achieve your goals is that you are easily distracted by shiny objects. This means that it is easy for you to get of track in your day or your efforts. I am in internet junkie and it is easy for me to get distracted by the shiny object of Twitter or something I read that leads to something else to something else.

What are your shiny objects? Be honest with yourself and list the things that get you off on a tangent. Once you know what they are, you can more easily work on eliminating them.

One more reason that you may not be able to achieve your goals is that you have no time frame. When do you want to have that goal over and done with? If there is no time frame, then there is no reason to really work on it. It is just as easy to ignore it, as it is to put out the effort to work on it if there is no time boundary.

Set a time when the goal is to be done. You may not reach it, but at least you will be closer. Who knows, you might even beat the time limit.

The last reason I will mention in this article is about action. Is your goal action oriented? What I mean is does your goal call for you to do something? If your goal is to "be popular" how is that going to happen? The goal is not only not specific, it does not say how it is going to happen or what you are going to do to make it happen. Are you going to join a club? "I will increase my popularity by joining the wounded badger club next month," is a goal that not only is specific, but it says what you are going to do and when.

If you want things to change in your life you have to have goals. If you want to achieve your goals, then you must make them specific, not allow yourself to be pulled off track by shiny objects, be time bound, and they must call you to action. If you follow these four simple steps, you will achieve your goals!
